Gujarat CHO Eligibility 2026: Qualification, Age Limit, Registration Rules & Community Health Requirements
Gujarat has been one of the early adopters of the Health & Wellness Centre (HWC) and Ayushman Arogya Mandir model. Under the National Health Mission (NHM), the state periodically recruits Community Health Officers (CHOs) to manage primary healthcare delivery at the sub-centre and village level.
However, Gujarat’s CHO eligibility is often misunderstood because:
• It may allow multiple qualification routes • Council registration rules are strict • Local language expectations exist • Some conditions change by recruitment cycle
This guide explains how eligibility usually works in Gujarat CHO recruitments and what you must verify before applying.
1. Educational Qualification - Who Can Apply
Gujarat typically follows a broad healthcare-qualification model for CHO recruitment.
Commonly Accepted Qualifications (Cycle-dependent)
In most cycles, the following are considered:
✔ B.Sc Nursing ✔ Post Basic B.Sc Nursing ✔ GNM (in some cycles, with conditions) ✔ AYUSH degrees (BAMS / BHMS / BUMS) - in select cycles
However, Gujarat often prefers degree-qualified nurses over diploma routes unless explicitly stated.
2. Community Health Training / Bridge Course Requirement
CHO is not a hospital post. It is a public health leadership role.
That is why Gujarat, like many states, expects candidates to have:
• Community health knowledge • Preventive care exposure • Public health understanding
What This Means for You
If your degree already includes community health subjects (most B.Sc Nursing programs do), that usually satisfies the requirement.
If you are a GNM candidate, Gujarat may require:
• A bridge program • Or a community health certificate (CCH / CPCH / MLHP-type) • Or specific public health exposure
This condition varies by cycle, so always check the official notification.
3. Nursing Council Registration Rules
Gujarat is strict about professional registration.
To be eligible, you usually need:
✔ Valid registration with Gujarat Nursing Council OR ✔ Valid registration with another State Nursing Council + proof of migration (if allowed)
Some cycles allow out-of-state candidates to apply, but:
• You must register with Gujarat council before joining • Or within a fixed time window
Failure to complete this step can cancel your appointment.
4. Age Limit & Relaxations
Gujarat CHO age limits usually fall within:
Minimum age: 18-21 years Maximum age: 36-40 years
Relaxations are provided for:
• SC / ST • OBC • PwBD • Ex-servicemen
Exact numbers vary by year.
Always check the cut-off date mentioned in the notification.
5. Experience Requirement
Experience is not usually mandatory for Gujarat CHO.
However:
• Rural health experience may be preferred • Community outreach experience may be valued • GNM candidates may benefit from experience
Experience often helps in selection but is not always an eligibility condition.
6. Domicile & Language Considerations
Gujarat does not always impose a strict domicile rule.
However:
• Knowledge of Gujarati is often expected • Rural service readiness is assumed • Locals may get preference in tie-breaking
Language may not be listed as “eligibility” but can appear in instructions.
7. Who Is Commonly Rejected
Many candidates are rejected because of:
❌ No valid nursing council registration ❌ GNM without community health qualification ❌ Age miscalculation ❌ Category certificate mismatch ❌ Incomplete documentation ❌ Not meeting public health training requirements
8. Gujarat CHO Eligibility - Quick Summary
